Poor Owen had jaundice for about the first week of life. He had to
wear a biliblanket on his skin from
Saturday to Wednesday. It was nice that he got to be home and not in the
hospital but it was a little annoying that the machine had to be plugged in so
it was harder to move him because of the cord. We also had to go the the hospital
every day for the first 10 days so they could check his bilirubin levels in his
blood. They would prick his heel and fill up a tube. By the end of doing this
we knew if the phlebotomist was a good one and would be quick or a slow one
that would make his cry even more.
Andrew said he looked like a little glow
worm and that was a pretty good description. He liked the biliblanket because
it was warm.
His levels are now normal but his eyes are still a little yellow. That's normal and should go away within the next week.
