Baby Shower

Today Andrew's step sister is having a baby shower. I decided to try and be creative when giving diapers. I saw something similar on Pinterest and decided to give it a try.
Now she can buy baby Milana a cute outfit and not having to worry about diapers for a while. Clothes are way more fun to buy than diapers.

All I used was a package of diapers, some ribbon, a skewer and a plate. Quick simple and a little bit cuter. Not as cute as the one on Pinterest but cuter than a boring old bag of diapers.

Cousins

On Wednesday we went and visited my aunt Brooke and baby Emma Grace. It's crazy how quickly they grow.

One Simple Rule to a Clean House

A few weeks ago I was talking to my mom about how my house was so messy; there were dishes in the sink, the kitchen was a mess, the toilet needed scrubbed, and there was laundry to be folded. She said that she has recently read an article that talked about one simple way to organize your life/house. It was, finish. It is so easy to make dinner and leave the dishes on the counter or stove. Then eat dinner and leave the dishes in the sink. I think, I'll take care of these after Owen is sleeping or in a while. Do that a few meals a day for 2 days and there is a huge mess. In reality, if I did the dishes right after dinner it wouldn't take as long, it would be easier because the pot would be fresh and not caked on and then I wouldn't have that be nagging me in the back of my mind.
When I do laundry, I always wait and do 4 or 5 loads at a time. The article said to do a load when you need to and not let it pile up. Then as soon as it is done drying fold it and put it away. It sounds simple enough but I'm really good at putting things off. I always think, I'll get to it before I go to bed. Then I get in bed and remember but I'm already in bed so I think I'll do it in the morning. Next thing I know it's 3 days later and the clothes are wrinkled and still in the dryer.
I've been thinking about that a lot lately. I've been doing it for about a week and it really is working. It's just a simple rule that is making my house cleaner and making me happier. It's crazy how a cleaner house can help me feel happier. I have less to worry about and it's great!

Oreo Truffle Stuffed Strawberries

Haley and I have the perfect arrangement. She brings the ingredient and then I do the baking. Today was Oreo truffle stuffed strawberries. There were really yummy. We got the recipe here. Personally I wouldn't have have put the frosting on them because I'm not a big fan of frosting but it does make them look prettier.

Happy Valentine's Day!

For Valentine's day we made a little craft for grandparents and my sister. Owen cooperated so well and I think that they turned out so cute. I was surprised that he stayed so still and didn't mind his feet being painted.

Toesies

Owen found his toes and likes to play with them. It's so fascinating to see him exploring the world even if it is attached to him.

Singing

Sorry this is dark but I was feeding Owen and he decided he was done and would tell me that by singing. He sings all the time and it is so fun.

Tasty Fingers

This is from 2 weeks ago but it shows exactly how much he loves his fingers.

4 Month Apointment

Owen now weighs 12 lbs 9 oz
He is in the 3rd percentile
He is now 25.5 inches long
He is in the 53rd percentile
His head circumference is in the 36.5 percentile

So pretty much he is tall and skinny, just like Andrew.
Doctor said that he is healthy and that is all that matters!

4 Months Old

  • He likes to sing, babble and coo. He isn't quiet but it is fun to talk to him and have him talk back
  • Now when he wakes up, more often than  not he will lay in his bed and talk and sing. It's much more pleasant than hearing his cry.
  • He still wears size 1 diapers and is in 3-6 months clothes. He is tall so a lot of his clothes are baggy in the middle to be able to fit his length. A lot of his sleeves are too short. The poor kid is going to struggle with that for the rest of his life.
  • He can now roll from his back to his tummy. If I ever leave the room when I come back he isn't in the same spot I left him. He is quite the wiggle worm.
  • He likes his stroller. I run at the track and he likes going around and looking at all of the new things and people.
  • Still likes his bath, not wearing clothes, watching basketball with Andrew, reading and singing.

The Many Faces of Owen

How does time go by so quickly? I can't believe that Owen is already 4 months!!!
Yesterday I tried two different times to get some good pictures. Even though he would never give me a great big smile while the camera was out, I think these are pretty cute. It shows his personality pretty well. He is singing, being bashful, mischievous and curious as to what His crazy mom is doing when I was trying to get him to smile.

"Mom, I'm tired of this. Make the camera go away."

What a Day!

Yesterday was not your typical Monday.
Around 10 Sunday night we heard a crash in the laundry room. Andrew went to check it out and said it didn't look like anything had fallen. At about 1:30 in the morning Owen woke up. I went to go check on him and thought it was really cold in our house. I tried to turn up the heat but nothing happened. I thought it was weird but didn't think much about it in my sleepy daze. Then at about 3 he woke up again. I picked him up to feed him and his hands were freezing and it was even colder in the house. I woke up Andrew and had him take a look at the heater. It wasn't working. So we decided to have Owen sleep with us to keep him warm because he is always kicking off his blankets.
I left to go to preschool about 10 minutes early so I could prep the art activity because there was a lot of things a needed to cut out. I couldn't get the car to start. The battery to our key has been low and we ordered new ones and they were supposed to be here last Wednesday and still aren't here. Anyway, there are a few tricks to get the car started but none of them were working. so at 8:15 I call the lady I teach for and tell her that my car wont start and that I might be a little late but will keep trying. She says she will come and get me which is so nice of her so I don't have to walk/run. She lives about a mile and a half away which isn't that far but it was snowy and there was no way I would have made it on time. Then she calls back and says that she will do the prep for me and one of the moms will pick me up on the way. So that was even better. Everything worked out great and the children had a fun time making heart puppies even though none of them actually looked like puppies. They got to use the hearts however they wanted.

Once I got home, the heater still wasn't working and Andrew and Owen were freezing. At that point we knew there was a real problem and so I called a repair man. I called one and they said they could come late that night or early the next morning. Well that wasn't going to work. The next guy I called said he was just about to go to lunch but would stop by right before and to expect him in the next 10 minutes. He was here for about 40 minutes and finally figured out what was wrong. The igniter had burnt out and broken off. That would explain the crash Sunday night. He had to go get a new one 30 miles away and get lunch. He said he would be back around 3.
We were still cold so we hung out in the kitchen around the oven while I made bread. The oven made it much warmer so that was helpful. I felt so bad for Owen because he didn't want to be held but anytime I would put him down he would kick off the blankets.
The repair man came back about 3:30 and we finally had heat about 4:15.
And that was our not so typical Monday!
